I had McCarter install Hardie siding on three sides of my house. The workmanship was exceptional and the crew was professional and easy to work with.
Ramona U. Ann Arbor MI
Everyone from project manager to crew to customer service was very knowledgeable, responsive, and pleasant. They are not cheap but the superior quality of work and professionalism make them worth it overall.

We are absolutely delighted with the all new outside of our house and are still breaking into smiles when we look at it, knowing it is as well constructed as it is attractive. We found each of the John McCarter construction crews to be hardworking, meticulous, and keen on getting the job done right and to our satisfaction. It was a good experience to work with McCarter construction from start to finish. They will be our first choice on future projects.

We had a new roof and Hardi board siding put up. The completed project looks amazing! We couldn't be happier with the final look.
Jim T. Ortonville MI
Very satisfied with all aspects of this job. The whole crew were very professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. I made the right choice with McCarter, and yes, I would do it again. I would recommend McCarter to anyone considering to have this work done. I am very pleased with the overall quality of the materials and love the finished look of my "new" house! I sincerely cannot say enough good things about McCarter's.

We had a positive experience from start to finish with John McCarter Construction when we had our siding replaced and installed in March 2017. I would highly recommend them.

They were great.

I was thoroughly satisfied with the workmanship on the new siding and windows that were installed on my polebarn. They also took care of another project on an attached horsebarn. My job was completed in a timely manner and the clean up afterwards looked like great too! I would recommend John McCarter to my friends and family.

I felt that the communication between myself, the sales person and the job site manager was terrible. Further, they didn't bother to try and match up the appearance of the work that they were doing on the latest project to work that had been done by them just a year earlier. This is the second time I've used them and I was somewhat disappointed the first time as well, again due to poor communication with the salesperson and the job site manager.

John McCarter did a great job of presenting the product, explained the process very well and presented a very professional proposal. The pricing was about 20% less than the competition, so we chose them. From that point forward, the process was less than satisfying. The office did a poor job of communicating the installation schedule, giving us a 1 day notice. We recognize that these kinds of schedules are weather dependent, but even so, we asked for a bit more. The office was silent until the very end. The work crew were ok, but we feel they gave us lip service at best when we asked about protecting plants. In the end, we feel they did nothing to protect our plantings. Several windows were damaged (2 were displaced in the home opening, one was the recipient of a wayward hammer blow in the frame). Gillis, the project manager and son of the owner, tried to tell us that the displaced windows were a result of poor installation. We disagreed and when the window guy finally came out confirmed our opinion that the siding installation moved the windows. They were eventually fixed, but it took several visits. The damaged window was replaced right away, but it would have been respectful to us if we had been offered to have it replaces with the same type as the rest of the house (Wallside). McCarter picked their brand. While this is adequate, we now have one unique window in the house. It would have been respectful to have had been given the option. In the quote presentation, there were pictures presented that showed how the bay window boxes would look - based on the existing siding. When we wanted the crew to replicate the pictures, they readily agreed, but Gillis said there was additional cost. We disagreed saying that McCarter needed to do what they showed us they would do. Eventually, we did not pay for that, but it was an unnecessary negotiation. This part felt like a bait and switch tactic. The gutter guy was very good - highly recommended.McCarter also had to send out a painter to touch up many spots that the crew had damaged. The painter also had to re-caulk most of the windows as the quality and uniformity of the caulk job by the siding crew was substandard. There was no push back from McCarter to get this done, but just the fact of having the extra contractors come out and trying to schedule them caused family disruptions that should not have been necessary. At the end of the day, the project looks good, but it was not an enjoyable process. We are working with other contractors on other projects where the process is enjoyable. There also seemed to be something fishy going on with the crew chief. Some days, the crew was there (at times only one guy) and nobody seemed to know where the chief was. This just seemed odd.
