Ultimately, the siding job on our house looks good. It took a lot more of my personal time and effort to assure that outcome than I had hoped. The workers were super nice, great people. Apparently, they were supposed to have a 3 man crew, but the teams were short staffed and only two of them consistently showed up. The project took longer than anticipated because of this, but there were also considerable weather delays. Time delays weren't a huge problem for me, though. What most concerned me was attention to detail. The installers made repeated oversights and misjudgments in their work, some with significant functional and aesthetic impacts. Each day I would review their progress and often needed to point things out or ask that items be corrected. I spoke often with the supervisor who seemed to have much more experience and would come and correct things with the workers. The last few days, he came in and worked with the installers to get the job completed. I appreciated his help and intervention. Despite the persistence of relatively minor inconsistencies in the workmanship, the siding installation overall looks good. I trust that the James Hardie product will be durable. There was not an independent attention to detail that I would have hoped for from a group with a reputation such as Holmes, but overall I'm pleased with the outcome.
